“That’s my way of preparation – to not be prepared. And that takes a lot of preparation” – according to this quote by alto saxophonist Lee Konitz, the connection between Birgitta Flick and Antje Rößeler has developed over the past years within the jazz scenes of Berlin and Stockholm, where they have met in various band constellations and have grown into a duo. They find especially the combination of both their compositions particularly inspiring.
In 2023, they have explored and experimented with various ways of composing together and composing for each other between. A recording day with Guy Sternberg at Hansa Studios in Berlin concluded the project and the album “Sending a Phoenix” was released in 2024 by wismART.
The composition project and the recording were funded by Musikfonds e.V. by means of the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and Media, as part of the NEUSTART KULTUR recovery programme.
